I decided to make a chain out of wood that is connected by dowel pins so they can be detachable and rearrangeable.

I had a bunch of successes with this project as well as catastrophic errors but overall I'm proud of what I was able to accomplish.

I started this assignment wanting to make coasters but I chose not to after talking it over with Ben. I brainstormed a little bit more and decided to go with a chain because it's cool to repeat but also turn into one item.

My plan was to make 5 links for the chain, but to make them as halves that could then be fit together. I ended up cutting 8 pairs off of my original plank with each "half link" being 3" x 1.5" x 1". Then I planned to place them in the jig and cut out the inner curve with the band saw and sand down the edges of the block on the other side to form the outer curve. Afterwards I would drill holes in the flat sides on the bottom to connect the half links into one whole link with dowel pins. To finish it off I wanted to spray paint it in a bright, color blocking pattern.
